And that's precisely what the latest game in the series, Twilight Princess, does. It's one of the greatest games of all time, so it's hard to fault Nintendo for revisiting that same formula. It featured a more realistic take on the series' fantasy world than ever before, while implementing innovative new controls and offering a good sense of freedom without making the player feel lost. 1998's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a prime example of this. During this time, Nintendo quickly found its footing and released masterful takes on its old franchises that retained the fun and feeling of the older games while properly updating them in exciting and impressive new ways. įor the bosses they are a bit harder in OOT, but I wouldn't say they are really hard either, once you know the trick they are not really challenging imo, in TP you usually get the trick immediately or so I think, but they are still fun to beat. When game consoles transitioned from offering primarily 2D games to polygonal 3D games about 10 years ago, all of the tricks and gameplay ideas that developers had been relying on for years flew right out the window. In OOT the fights consist more in waiting for an opening while you protect yourself with your shield, it's a shortcut because you can use the dekunuts for example and against the Iron-knucles I like to approach them, jump back and attack. įor the combats in TP it's way more smooth and dynamic and if you use the hidden skills it's a piece of cake, you can also fight in a melee where in OOT it's more 1vs1, without the hidden skill t's surely harder, especially against the mini-bosses, and you can slash your enemies witout stopping walking. I am bit surprised you needed a guide so much for TP, especially for things like taming Epona and the wrestling, but it's maybe because I tend to use a guide to solve a puzzle or know where I am supposed to go ( and the first time I would use a guide in TP would be in forest temple ), not saying I don't understand why you would want to use guide for that, but this is for different situations I guess ?Īnd it depend what we are comparing I think, Puzzle-wise I would put them on the same level. I would rate OoT a 3/10 in difficulty, and Twilight a 5/10. What would you guys say the harder game is? Honestly, both are pretty mellow playthroughs but TP definitely takes the cake for me. I can’t wait until the sky dungeon because double hookshotting is satisfying. Something about using the Wii remote to use weapons feels so smooth to me. OoT has more nostalgia, and I consider it one of the best video games of all time because of how revolutionary it was in changing gaming, but I like the fighting style and artwork more in TP. This may be a controversial opinion, but I enjoy Twilight Princess more. Also the timed parts of the biggoron sword quest were difficult, before I remembered you could just take the shortcut in the Lost Woods to Goron City through the Death Mountain Crater. Honestly, the only parts in OoT that gave me that much trouble were the keys in the Water Temple, and walking up the narrow ledge in the Fire Temple before the flames come back to get the megaton hammer (God I hate that part so much!). I have to do the King Bulbin battle next, and wrestle the Goron which both gave me hell in previous play throughs. Already I have had to tame Epona and do the wrestling thing which are both about as hard as any puzzle in OoT for me. So far in Twilight Princess I have had to use the guide several times and I am just about to enter the Goron Mines. Honestly the Gerudo’s Fortress/Castle I probably didn’t need to, but stealth missions make me anxious so I wanted to be prepared. For the Gerudo’s Fortress/sneaking into the castle, and for one of the keys in the Water Temple (I ALWAYS forget about the one in the center room after raising the water level!). For this play through of Ocarina, I only really needed to use the guide a few times. I’m guessing this is partially because I have beaten OoT probably half a dozen times at least, as opposed to maybe 2-3 play throughs of TP. One thing I have noticed, is that Twilight Princess seems to be significantly more complex and difficult as opposed to Ocarina of Time. Both these games hold a special place in my heart and replaying them has been a great experience so far! I just beat Ocarina of Time and am currently playing through Twilight Princess (About to enter the Goron Mines). So I am replaying the Zelda games that I enjoyed as a kid.
